Martha Tyler, RN, CMT is certified by the Virginia Board of Nursing as a Certified Massage Therapist, having graduated from Richmond’s American Institute of Massage (600 hour course). She is board certified in therapeutic massage and bodywork by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Her interest and experience in promoting health and wellness, combined with a strong interest in anatomy, physiology, body movement, and the power of touch led her to create Still Point Massage Therapy, LLC.

Martha is intrigued with the interface between science and spirituality, and has been involved with the healing arts for the past thirty years. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University. For many years, she worked as a nurse in multiple health care settings, with a focus on maternal and reproductive health, and earned a Master of Public Health degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1996. She worked for ten years as a health teacher and administrator at Orchard House School, a middle school for girls. While in massage school, Martha began studying The Trager Approach, which is a pleasurable, gentle, and effective way of understanding and facilitating movement education and mind/body integration. Trager table work involves gentle supportive movement that encourages deep relaxation, increased physical mobility, and mental clarity. Martha plans to become a certified practitioner.

Currently, Martha serves on the board of Chrysalis Institute, a small Richmond nonprofit organization that is dear to her heart. Chrysalis (www.chrysalisinstitute.org) is a “vibrant resource and learning center encouraging spiritual growth beyond conventional boundaries.” As of July 2015, Martha is a certified Let Your Yoga Dance instructor (trained at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health).  Let Your Yoga Dance is a delightful dance experience, wherein joy and fun meet deep and sacred.  It is a joy-based movement practice, bringing user friendly dance, yoga, and the chakras (body’s energy centers) together with music from around the world.  No previous yoga or dance experience is necessary!  Classes will be offered through Chrysalis Institute.

Still Point Massage Therapy offers an integration of multiple massage modalities, culminating in: a state of relaxation; an increased sense of well-being; and an improvement in the state of sore or injured muscle and connective tissue. Martha believes that loving touch can have a significantly positive influence on body and mind.
